IN SEARCH OF MYSELF
In a gloomy night,
where the fragrance of Alstonia spread around,
slowly, step by step, I walked through the field
where the leaves of the bushes were sharp as awls.
My feet followed the path of a narrow road
that ended in a forest silent for so long.
My lips murmured softly in the quiet air
as I stepped beside the darkest woods.
My eyes searched for a face in the dark
that carried a faint glitter through the night.
I found her standing still within a lonely yard,
her face clouded deeply like a restless sea.
That old, lean face felt strangely familiar—
those blue round eyes and long, flowing hair.
I tried to recognise her, yet failed somehow,
while forgotten memories struck me for a while.
All of a sudden, I realised who she was;
my heart beat louder and my breath stood still.
It was like a reflection in a shining mirror
through which I began to discover myself.
I could see my face within her sparkling eyes
reflecting the secrets of my hidden soul.
It was my true self I longed to explore,
the self concealed beneath the world around me.
